The Appalachian Mountains of Harlan Kentucky provide some of the best scenery, views, and curves that can be found in the Eastern United States. Just imagine riding that parallels the type of riding seen in Deal's Gap and the Blue Ridge Parkway - but without the traffic or overly aggressive police presence.  Black Snake Appalachia to Cumberland crosses Black Mountain at the highest point in Kentucky and is aptly named the Coalfield Black Snake run. Black Snakes are in abundance in this coal region and you're likely to catch a glimpse or so of snakes sunbathing on the road during the summer months. <More Info> |
 Fire in the Hole From Cumberland to Harlan along State Route 522, is the area Elmore Leonard immortalized in his book "Fire in the Hole" which is now a popular FX TV Show you may have seen called "Justified." <More Info> |
 Reapers Scythe The scythe is a cutting tool... the ride cuts right through 75 miles of twists and turns, ups and downs through Kentucky's back roads from Whitesburg to Cumberland and back. <More Info> |
 Sidewinder From downtown Harlan, Kentucky, take SR38 through Evarts and on to Keokee. You will cross back into Virginia just before reaching town. The road is somewhat like the Sidewinder Snake and was one of the main moonshine runs in the 30s and 40s between the two states. The Sidewinder is a portion of the "Twisted Sister" and "Benge's Revenge" runs. <More Info> |
 Moonshiner's Run Travel the route made infamous during prohibition - Moonshiners Run. From Whitesburg, Kentucky. Take State Route 15 out of town to US119 south. Just past SR932 on US119, you'll come to the old Maggard's Store, made famous in the Coal Miner's Daughter movie. Be sure to check it out. A little further down US119 you will see The Stables at Creekside Equestrian, Shekinah Village and some comfy cabins for rent at Creekside. From US119 to US421 is about 42 miles. Once in Cumberland, there are plenty of conveniences for food and a fill-up. <More Info>

 Dam Run Coming in from Pennington Gap toward Harlan, Kentucky on US421, you have the opportunity to take a couple of side trips. Dam Run I leads to Martin's Fork Lake on KY987 as well as Cranks Creek Lake and Stone Mountain Boat Dock. <More Info> |
